The Department of History in the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in the area of Canadian Business History.
The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, effective July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will also be eligible to be appointed as the endowed L. R. Wilson & R. J. Currie Chair in Canadian Business History for a five-year term, renewable following a favorable review. This is a joint appointment between the Department of History (75%) and the Rotman School of Management (25%).
The candidate’s research may focus on any topic within Canadian Business History, but should show experience with a range of scholarship and methods outside of the specialization. The successful candidate will have an internationally distinguished record of excellence in research and teaching, and provide academic leadership in the area of business history. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in history, or a related discipline, a record of excellent scholarly achievement, and evidence of excellence in teaching. Qualifications include the demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Canadian Business History. Graduate teaching will include thematic and specialized seminars as well as supervision of Master’s and PhD students.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence as demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, distinguished awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample course syllabi, and the teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
This position will be held at the central University of Toronto campus in downtown Toronto (St. George campus). The candidate will join a vibrant and multi-disciplinary community of scholars on all three U of T campuses who study Canadian history and the historical development of the Canadian and international economic system in its historical, legal, and political contexts.
