Álvaro Ferreira da Silva has a PhD in History from the European University Institute (Florence) and is an Associate Professor at Nova School of Business and Economics (Lisbon). His current research spans through different fields: business groups in historical perspective, risk management in international business, and the history of infrastructures. He published in journals such as Business History, Business History Review, Technology and Culture, Journal of Political Power. He is currently an elected member of the European Business History Association’s Council. Latest publications: “Portugal: Changing Environment and Flexible Adaptation” (2018, book chapter), “The ‘script’ of a new urban layout: mobility, environment and embellishment in Lisbon (1850-1910)” (2019, Technology and Culture), “Electric power industry: experiments in international business” (2019, book chapter), “Thirsting for efficiency: technological and transaction-cost explanations for the municipalisation of water supply” (2020, book chapter), “The paradox of nationality: foreign investment in Portuguese Africa (1880-1974)” (2020, Business History).
