I am a PhD graduate from the University of Maryland.  I recently defended my dissertation titled "The Shareholder Movement: Shareholder Rights and Activism in the 20th Century".  The dissertation focuses on shareholder activists in the 20th Century United States and their efforts to expand their rights as shareholders and to make corporate governance more responsive to their interests. As part of their efforts, they expanded what shareholders were able to demand from corporate management through formal mechanisms of corporate governance like shareholder resolutions.  Additionally, they sought to expand the definition of shareholder interests beyond rate of return or their dividends to include a range of issues that affected shareholders and the communities they were in. 

My broader research interests include the history of corporations as political actors, the extension of natural rights to corporate entities, and the history of people with too much time on their hands.
