European University Institute

Financial history
Emerging Scholars

PhD Researcher. Project title: "Belgian Stock Markets: Financialisation, Liberalisation, and Growth (1867-1914)"

Brecht Rogissart is a predoctoral researcher at the European University Institute in Florence. He completed his Master of Arts in History at Ghent University with a dissertation on the letter correspondence of Charles de Haupt, an agent on the Brussels stock market. In his PhD research, he aims to investigate processes of financialisation, liberalisation, and internationalisation of the Belgian stock markets, specifically Antwerp and Brussels, between 1867 and 1914. In the first year of his PhD, his entry point to this research is through the examination of Belgian companies in this time period and their dependency on the aforementioned stock exchanges.
