I am a PhD candidate at LSE focusing on twentieth century Japanese and East Asian economic and business history from a global perspective. My current research analyses the absorption of foreign manufacturing knowledge in the Japanese rubber industry between 1900 and 1965 as a lens through which to understand the mechanisms of catch-up industrialisation. I focus in particular on the Kobe and Kurume rubber clusters which gave birth to firms such as Bridgestone and Asics.
