I am Timothy Chan, a third-year history PhD student at the University of Manchester. I completed my undergraduate degree at Peking University and my MPhil degree at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
My research interest centers on 19-century China's foreign relations and trade with the Western World, the history of Hong Kong, and British Empire's influence on East Asia's politics and economy. My PhD project explores Britain's political, economic and diplomatic concerns behind the creation of Hong Kong Dollars and the Hong Kong Mint in the 1860s.
