Alex Sayf Cummings is a historian of technology, law, labor, and the American landscape. She received her PhD from Columbia University and is the author of Democracy of Sound (2013), about the history of music piracy, and Brain Magnet (2020), on the high-tech industry in the US South, as well as an editor of the acclaimed public history anthology East of East (2020). Her work has appeared in the Journal of American History, Journal of Urban History, and Nursing Clio, among other publications. She is currently working on projects about care work in the US and the history of the Geo Metro car.
