Matteo Calabrese is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Bocconi University in Milan, and a Visiting Fellow at the International Institute of Social History (IISH) in Amsterdam since 2023. He earned his PhD from the C2DH department at the University of Luxembourg in 2023, with a thesis focusing on the evolution of the Grand Duchy's financial sector in the 20th century. Matteo's research interests encompass financial history, specifically investment funds, holding companies, and financial intermediaries. He also explores long-run economic history, examining areas such as labor history, determinants of economic growth, and comparative analysis within the Eurasian bloc.

His work has been published in Historical Methods, Brill RDJ, Italian Economic Journal, Contemporary European History (co-authored with Benoît Majerus, on the history of Luxembourg-domiciled holding companies between the wars), and Journal of European Economic History. In 2022, Matteo delved into researching the history of mutual funds in Taiwan, having received the S.T.R.A. grant research fellowship from Taiwan's Ministry of Education.
