Biographical Summary

Simone Selva holds a PhD in Contemporary European History from the University of Milan and a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Bologna. A former associate fellow at Oxford University and at the Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung in Potsdam (Germany), he was visiting scholar at Columbia and Harvard Universities. More recently he was research fellow at the German Historical Institute in Washington DC and visiting research professor for the Mexican Government at El Colegio de Mexico, Mexico City.  His research interests revolve around the interplay between the process of international financial and monetary interdependence from Bretton Woods through the 1970s, and the twofold development of mass consumption markets and energy policies in the international relations system from the viewpoint of U.S. foreign economic policy. He also focuses on the role of international economic institutions, international business and the modern corporation in the process of economic globalization during the twentieth century, and on the history of international financial crises from the late nineteenth century to the late twentieth century.

He is the author of Integrazione internazionale e sviluppo interno. Stati Uniti e Italia nei programmi di riarmo del blocco atlantico 1945-1955 (Rome: Carocci 2009), whose revised and updated version was published as Supra-National Integration and Domestic Economic Growth. The United States and Italy in the Western Bloc Rearmament Programs, 1945-1955 (Bruxelles-New York-Oxford-Frankfurt: Peter Lang 2012). He was awarded the national qualification to the tenure track position at the Associate Professor level in Economic History (Associate Professor level, 2014) and in the History of International Relations (Associate Professor level, 2015) from the Italian Ministry for Research and Education. He just finalized a monograph on the U.S. foreign financial and monetary policies since the 1960s through the Volcker Revolution of the late 1970s (Before the Neoliberal Turn: the Collapse of US International Monetary and Financial Leadership from the 1960s through the Rise of Energy Finance in the 1970s, accepted for publication, in press. London: Palgrave, 2017)

He also passed the qualifying examination (2016) to teach official classes at LUISS University of Rome in the following disciplines: Economic Policy; Political Economy; Economic History; History of Economic Thought; History of International Relations; History of the Americas.
