Born in Istanbul in 1985. He completed his undergraduate studies in the Department of Public Finance and Public Administration (2009) and his master's degree in the Department of Economic History (2011) at Istanbul University. He earned his doctoral degrees in Economic History at the Centre for Ottoman Studies, University of Birmingham, in 2018, and in the Department of Economics at the Institute of Social Sciences, Istanbul University, in 2024. Between February 2010 and July 2020, he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Economic History, Faculty of Economics, Istanbul University.
Serdaroğlu, who continues his work as an Assistant Professor at the same chair, has published three books: “The First Bank in the Ottoman Empire: The Dersaadet Bank, Merchants and Business Networks” (İktisat Yayınları, 2020), “Turkish Financial History from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic” (Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Finance Office, 2024), and “An Introduction to Ottoman-Turkish Business History: The Accumulated Knowledge of Ottoman Economic History” (Filiz Yayınevi, 2026). He currently serves as associate editor of the “Istanbul Journal of Economics” at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Economics and continues his research on commercial and financial operations, merchants, business networks, and companies in the context of nineteenth-century Ottoman economic, business, and financial history.
