This panel aims to move forward the discussion on gender studies in banking, which has been dominated by studies on labour practices (McKinley & Taylor) and women investors. The panel offers a cross country approach to better understand how large number of women (and particularly married women) accessed retail financial markets without restrictions. The panel builds on pioneering studies of among others Sabine Effosse (chair of the panel) and Bernardita Escobar Andrae (discussant) to map experiences in Europe and Latin America (specifically Spain (Batiz-Lazo & Martinez) and Mexico (Flores)).
Following BHC custom, only one of the persons in the co-authored papers will be presenting during the panel.The panel also aims to balance presenters from different geographies, gender as well as include early career researchers who are also first timers at BHC.
There will be presentations in both English and Spanish.
