Noel Mariam George
Noel Mariam George is a PhD candidate in International History at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her dissertation, After Refuge: Rehabilitation, State Experiments, and Refugee Self-Fashioning in India, 1940–1980, examines how displaced communities such as Tamil repatriates, Tibetan exiles, and Partition refugees became central to the making of new governance and economic institutions in postcolonial India. Drawing on archives in the UK, India, and the United States, her research explores how refugee rehabilitation intersected with experiments in developmentalism, citizenship, and state capacity. She has presented her work at international conferences including ICPHAA (Amsterdam, 2024) and the Modern South Asia Workshop (Oxford, 2025).
