Richard Adjei is a PhD Candidate in the History of Medicine at the School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University. My research interests lie in the intersections between traditional medicine, biomedicine, and postcolonial science in Africa. For my doctoral dissertation, I am examining how traditional healers, medical scientists, and state regulatory institutions, as well as the general public in Ghana co-produce medical knowledge, negotiate authority and legitimacy, and redefine modernity in healthcare. Overall, I am committed to advancing interdisciplinary scholarship on medical knowledge productions, legitimacy and legitimations processes, and innovations in African health systems.
