Christos Desyllas (MSc, M.Ed., PhD) is a Doctor of Economic History at the Department of History, Ionian University, with academic background in theology, history, and economics. In 2008, he was awarded by the Academy of Athens (Class of Moral and Political Sciences) for the best published scientific study of the three-year period on the history of the banking system and the Greek economy.
He teaches at the Hellenic Open University, and his research interests focus on Greek history, the study of hybrid financial institutions, credit cliometrics, and the economic ideas of Christianity.
He is the author of the following monographs:
• The Bank of the Poor: The Monte di Pietà of Corfu (1630–1864), PIOP, Athens, 2006.
• The Advocate of the Poor: An Essay on Social Protection in Nineteenth-Century Corfu, Athens, 2011.
