Alexis McCrossen

Professor, Southern Methodist University

19th c. US, cultural history, American Consumer Culture, Technological Change, Industrialization
Women in Business History

My research into the cultural history of the US asks questions about time consciousness, economic scarcity and abundance, and the impact of industrialization. I am the author of Holy Day, Holiday: The American Sunday (2000), Marking Modern Times: Clocks, Watches and Other Timekeepers in American Life (2013), and How New Year's Became the Time of Your Life: A History (forthcoming 2028). My other publications include Daily Life During the Industrial Age (2025, editor) and Land of Necessity: Consumer Culture in the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands (2013, editor).
