Neda Jahanbani is a third-year PhD student in the Communications Program at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Her dissertation focuses on the implementation and interpretation of U.S. sanctions on Iran as a symbolic platform to amplify messages of moral ideology, national unity, and global positionality in both countries. Prior to joining the Communications Doctoral Program, she earned her M.A. at New York University, where she wrote her thesis on the issues of masculinity in intergenerational Iranian American households. She also holds her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego, where her research focused on the pre-revolutionary National Iranian Radio and Television system.
