The BHC Trustees recently approved the organization of a mid-year event/conference. This meeting seeks to become a permanent event of our association to further connect with the membership and engage with scholars and professionals related to the field of business history. The 2021 mid-year conference is scheduled for September 28th at 12 ET and will consist of a 120 minutes Zoom meeting.

Speakers
Jessica Levy, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of History at Purchase College, SUNY, where she teaches courses on the history of race and racism, the history of capitalism, and the U.S. and the World. She is currently at work on her first book, Black Power, Inc: Corporate America, Race, and Empowerment Politics in the U.S. & Africa, a transnational history of black empowerment politics since World War II. Her writing has appeared in Enterprise & Society, the Journal of Urban History, The Washington Post, Black Perspectives, and Public Seminar. She is the host of ​WhoMakesCents: A History of Capitalism Podcast.
Geoffrey Jones, Ph.D., Isidor Straus Professor of Business History at the Harvard Business School and co-editor of Business History Review. He has published on the history of global business. His recent research is focused on the history of the ecological and social responsibility of business, with a special focus on emerging markets.
Heidi Tworek, Ph.D., Associate Professor of International History and Public Policy at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. She is a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation. Her most recent book, News from Germany: The Competition to Control World Communications, 1900-1945 (2019), received the Ralph Gomory Prize from the Business History Conference. Her current research examines the history and policy of health communications. She co-edits Journal of Global History.
Maki Umemura, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in International Business at Cardiff University in the UK, where she teaches International Management and Asian Management Systems. Her research has been concerned with the evolution of industries at the technological frontier, particularly in biomedicine. In addition to Enterprise & Society and Business History, she has recently published articles in Regenerative Medicine and Energy Research & Social Science. She is on the editorial board of the journal Business History.
Each speaker will talk for about 10 to 15 minutes. Part of their commentary can touch upon previously formulated questions from the audience and the BHC members.
