I am a PhD candidate in the History Department at Brown University. My dissertation, titled 'The Order of Extraction: Capital, Debt, and Violence in Central Anatolia (1740-1839)' examines multiple patterns of (de)proletarianization in saltpeter, silver, and lead extraction zones as a complex interplay of inter- and intraclass violence in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century Ottoman Empire.
