Sonia Jaimes-Penaloza
I am a historian of Latin America’s political, social history, and business history as well. On my PhD dissertation Empresarios, azúcar y poder en el Valle del Cauca (Colombia, 1901-1959) I study the transformation process of the agrarian economy into an agro-industrial one. Indeed, I examine the entrepreneurial role in this productive transformation.
My research interests are focused on Latin America's State building issues like political culture and the relationship between business history. Recently I have been studying the football universe as a scenario where new urban policies and new forms of business interaction are played simultaneously. Now, I also work as a lecturer on capitalism history at Universidad Icesi and on business history at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Cali.
