New Directions in US Labor History

This round-table, consisting of labor history experts, explores some of the major recent trends in the subject. Mark Lause, a prolific author and expert in nineteenth century labor and military history, will examine how labor scholars have contributed to Civil War historiography. Keri Leigh Merritt, the author of the award-winning Masterless Men and co-editor of Reconsidering Southern Labor History, will offer insights about the state of southern labor history. Matt Hild, a scholar of populism and the other co-editor of Reconsidering Southern Labor History, promises to discuss the state of farmers’ movement scholarship. Chad Pearson, a scholar of employers’ association and ruling class repression, will chair and offer a few comments about the state of anti-labor union historiography.
