Rohit Prabu

Doctoral Researcher , European University Institute

History of Capitalism, Business and Economic History, Globalization, Colonial India, information, institutions, multinational companies

I am a fourth-year doctoral researcher at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. My doctoral dissertation focuses on the organization of the Indian Ocean trade by the English and the Dutch East India Companies in the eighteenth century. I am interested in understanding how the companies differed from the contemporary merchants and commercial networks operating in the Indian Ocean by investigating their accounting and information systems. My research interests include the early modern history of the Indian Ocean, early modern global trade, accounting and business history, and the history of capitalism.
