Abstract

The paper re-examines evidence surrounding the events leading up to and immediately following the nationalization of the Anglo Iranian Oil Company's assets in May 1951. Iranian justifications for this action were based on accusations of unfairness in the distribution of profits from oil production and anti-Iranian discrimination in the AIOC's employment policies. To provide further evidence concerning these claims, a financial analysis is conducted to assess the division of profits from the oil industry between the AIOC and the British and Iranian governments.
